Crib Conversion

I have never been thrilled with the way our crib was supposed to turn into a toddler bed.  It was too big and too high off of the ground.  So, the other day I rebuilt it.  Even though it has the same footprint as our old crib, it now looks like an inviting kid-sized couch and is so much lower than the crib that it gives the feeling of a lot more space in the room.

It cost $15 (for the wood) and was very simple.

He loves it.  Now, shhh... it's naptime!

  2. Thanks, guys! I'm sure it would look good painted, but I'm not going to paint it. What you see in the picture is the new partly-white bed next to the white dresser, but what you DON'T see is the natural wood bunk bed just two feet away on the other side. So, this little white-and-natural bed ties the room together.

  6. Oo this looks great! What was your original crib (looks like Ikea maybe?) We have an Ikea Gulliver and when the time comes we may have to do something like this as I didn't love how the toddler bed looked when we used it for our older child. Planning on providing any additional construction details?

  7. What a great idea! I am thinking of ways to convert 2 cribs from the 70s into toddler beds... I noticed that this bed is so close to the chest of drawers - do you not use them on regular basis?
